Lightbulb

Has anyone played these kits? I am very interested in the Bubinga sound, but I have no clue how they sound.

I've never played or heard a set but, bubinga is a very hard, dense wood. I believe it's harder than maple. Bubinga is usually pretty heavy too.

I imagine it would give you a dark, loud sound. It won't be as bright sounding as maple. It will most likely accentuate the mids, similiar to birch. Probably have massive low end, but not much highs. This is just my educated guess from what little knowledge I have of woods.

Cool

Hello!
I own these drums (year 2003 model) and they sound great!! This is the easiest set to tune and the toms really sound huge.
I have also Starclassic Performers and compared to them these sing a lot more.
Yes the shells sound little darker than maple but that's great for my ears and microphones.

Before I bought these, Kenny Aronoff testdrove and played a drum clinic with these drums!
If you want great studio drums buy this set...

Wasn't the snare from this set a top performer in the snare drum olympics a few years ago?

I'd be afraid to play it out live. I'd cry if I scratched them...

Think Sonor, they were 1 of the first to use Bubinga has an outer ply. Are the shells 100% bubinga?

Heard and checked out a bubinga kit while visiting Tama last year BUT wasn't to impressed. I'd have to agree with Mr. Walker. Go check out some of Sonor's. My buddy has some bubinga drums by sonor and they look and sound amazing.

Todd's is just a veneer isn't it? I think he has the details on his site.

His kit does look and sound amazing.
